NBA All-Star Weekend 2025: A New Format, Same Star Power
The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco brought fresh energy with a revamped tournament-style format, delivering memorable performances from both rising stars and veterans.
Weekend Highlights
Friday: Celebrity Game & Rising Stars Tournament
The Celebrity Game set the stage for a weekend of entertainment.
Team Chris Mullin won the Rising Stars Tournament and advanced to Sunday All-Star Game as Team Candace led by honorary GM Candace Parker.
2025 NBA Slam Dunk & 3-Point Contest Recap
All-Star Saturday Night at Chase Center in San Francisco delivered another round of unforgettable performances, highlighted by Mac McClung’s historic dunk contest three-peat and Tyler Herro’s sharpshooting takeover in the 3-Point Contest.
🏆 2025 Slam Dunk Contest: McClung Makes History
For the third straight year, Mac McClung reigned supreme in the Dunk Contest, becoming the first player ever to win three consecutive titles. Representing the Osceola Magic (G League), McClung delivered an electrifying performance, earning perfect 50s on every dunk and solidifying his status as the premier dunker of this era.
McClung’s Top Dunks of the Night:
• Over the Car – A nod to Blake Griffin’s iconic dunk, but with a twist: McClung cleared the entire roof before throwing it down.
• Hoverboard Double Dunk – Grabbing a ball from a friend spinning on a hoverboard while simultaneously dunking a second ball suspended above the rim.
• The Grand Finale – Leaped over Evan Mobley (standing on a platform), tapped the ball off the rim, and slammed it in with two hands.
San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle put up a strong fight in the finals, delivering a flawless behind-the-back spinning jam that earned him a perfect score. But McClung’s combination of power, precision, and creativity proved too much, etching his name in All-Star Weekend history alongside Nate Robinson—though McClung is the only player to win three straight.
🎯 2025 3-Point Contest: Tyler Herro Lights It Up
In a stacked 3-Point Contest field featuring defending champ Damian Lillard, Buddy Hield, and Darius Garland, Tyler Herro stole the show.
Key Moments from Herro’s Performance:
• Locked in for the Finals – Knocked down both Starry balls and racked up 24 points early, setting the pace.
• Outlasting the Favorites – Norman Powell and Buddy Hield tried to keep up, but Herro’s smooth stroke proved too much.
• First-Time Winner – In his first All-Star appearance, Herro took home the 3-Point Contest trophy, adding another accolade to his growing resume.
All-Star Saturday Night Delivered
Between McClung’s aerial artistry and Herro’s deadeye shooting, the 2025 NBA All-Star Saturday was one for the books. With historic performances and rising stars making their mark, the countdown to next year’s event is already on.
Sunday: A New Look for the All-Star Game
Instead of the traditional East vs. West, four teams battled it out in a tournament format:
Team Shaq (OGs) and Team Chuck (Global Stars) emerged victorious in the semifinals.
In the final, Team Shaq claimed the championship behind an MVP performance from Stephen Curry, who electrified his home crowd with deep threes and clutch plays.
Notable Performances
LeBron James earned his 21st All-Star selection but sat out due to injury.
Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shined, proving the leagues future is in good hands.
The new format sparked competitiveness while keeping the All-Star Weekend entertainment factor somewhat high. Did the changes make it more exciting for you? It was hard to compete with the 4 nations hockey tournament going on now even for non hockey fans. 🏒
